A Real Wedding at Port Lympne Reserve in Kent.

As a wedding planner, I’ve spent years helping other couples bring their dream days to life. But in October 2024, it was finally my turn to walk down the aisle, and I chose Port Lympne Reserve in Kent as the backdrop to our own wedding day.

It rained all day, and it was honestly perfect.

Why did we choose Port Lympne

Port Lympne isn’t just a venue, it’s a full experience. Located within a 600-acre wildlife reserve, it offers something truly unique for couples: dramatic views, historic buildings, luxury touches, and of course...a safari.

For us, it offered the sense of adventure we wanted, without compromising on style or intimacy.

Rainy Day Ceremony in the Pergola

We said our vows under the Pergola, with the rain creating the softest soundtrack around us. Guests gathered in the dry and warmth of the Pergola surrounded by beautiful flowers. It was romantic, emotional, and more atmospheric than I could have imagined.

Wet and Wild Safari!

Yes, we did the safari! l. It was such a fun, wild twist in the day that guests still talk about. There’s something unforgettable about seeing zebras, camels, rhinos and so many other animals in the rain, wrapped up in waterproofs (or best outfits!! I still feel bad with how wet some guests got but it made us all laugh!) with your best people.

If you're considering Port Lympne, do the safari—it adds such a playful, memorable layer to your day.

Reception in the stunning Orangery

Inspired by the surroundings, we went with a green, white, and gold colour palette. It felt fresh, luxurious, and seasonal, perfect for October. Think lush foliage, crisp white blooms, and golden details woven throughout the décor and table styling.

Our reception took place in the Orangery, one of Port Lympne’s most versatile spaces. We wanted it to feel like a glowing escape from the rain, so we brought in soft lighting, textured linens, and plenty of personal details to create a warm, intimate atmosphere

Planning My Own Wedding (as a Wedding Planner!)

As someone who lives and breathes weddings, I thought I knew what to expect. But experiencing it as a bride gave me a new perspective. The emotions, the unpredictable moments, the magic of having a great team, it all matters.

And when it rained all day, I didn’t stress. I adjusted, I trusted my suppliers, and I let the day unfold. That mindset made it even more special. As soon as I had my dress on I didn’t care what the weather was doing!
